Welcome to Chi Omega!

Welcome to the Alpha Kappa chapter of Chi Omega at North Carolina State University! Since our founding in 1984, we have been committed to Chi Omega’s founding principles: friendship, personal integrity, service to others, academic excellence, community and campus involvement, and career and personal development. When you join Chi Omega, you join a national network of women who put these principles into action and live these values every day!


Whether through getting involved in your community and on campus, promoting our philanthropic efforts for Make-A-Wish Foundation nationally and ALS United locally, bonding with your sisters, and making lifelong bonds is what we do best! We hope you enjoy learning about our history, values, and sisterhood!

A Letter from Our President

On behalf of the Alpha Kappa chapter of Chi Omega, welcome! My name is Shannon Dorsi, and I am honored to serve as President this year. 


Serving as the President of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Chi Omega is something I feel

incredibly grateful for. When I joined Chi Omega as a freshman in the fall of 2023, I was hoping to find a place where I felt connected on campus. What I found was so much more than that—this chapter quickly became my home.


Chi Omega provided me with a multitude of opportunities to grow both personally and as a leader, connected me with lifelong friends, and gave me memories I will always cherish. The women in this chapter are some of the most supportive people I know. They are the friends who celebrate your wins, encourage you when things get hard, and make everyday moments so much more fun. The relationships built here are truly special, and I know they will last far beyond our college years.


One thing that makes me proud to be a Chi Omega is our commitment to giving back.

Our chapter is incredibly passionate about supporting our philanthropies, both nationally and locally. Nationally, we support Make-A-Wish, an organization that grants wishes for children facing life-threatening illnesses. At the local level, we support ALS United in honor of our dear advisor, Whitford, who has done so much for our chapter. Some of my favorite memories have come from watching our members flip pancakes at our annual pancake dinner, or participating in our dodge for a cause and walk for ALS. It's a reminder that our sisterhood isn’t just about the friendships we build, but also about the impact we can make together.


The Alpha Kappa chapter of Chi Omega is a place where women find confidence, leadership opportunities, lifelong friendships, and a community that truly cares about each other.


I feel so lucky to be part of it and even luckier to serve this chapter as President.

Our last #WhyChiOWednesday of summer with PC 24’s Molly Evans! ?? Hear from Molly on why she chose Chi O: “As a girl from Raleigh, who never thought she would go to NC State, these girls and this place have truly been my why. Not only my why Chi O, but my why NC State. Going through recruitment and walking into Chi O every day felt like a breath of fresh air, and that was my sign. When I could laugh, cry, and be myself, even during the rounds of recruitment, I knew I was home. I got lucky enough to be suitemates freshman year with two amazing girls who also went Chi O, who showed me what true friendship really is. I’ve been able to live with the best roommate, find the best friends, and share everything with my sisters, and I wouldn’t trade my lifelong friendships for anything!! The girls I’ve met in this place are like no other, and I couldn’t imagine my life without them, or without Chi O.” #CHIO #CHOOSEWISELY #XOXO

Meet our New Member Educators Jenna Beavin & Ashley Hathaway!? “Serving as New Member Educator has been one of the most exciting and fulfilling parts of my Chi Omega experience! I love having the opportunity to welcome new members into our sisterhood and help them feel connected, supported, and confident from the very beginning. Through this position, I’ve grown as a leader, strengthened my communication skills, and learned how rewarding it is to mentor others. Chi Omega means so much to me because it has given me incredible friendships, unforgettable memories, and a community that always encourages me to be my best self. Watching new members find their place and create meaningful connections has been my favorite part of this role, and I’m so grateful to be part of an organization that has positively shaped my college experience.” - Jenna “Hi!! One of my favorite parts has been getting to meet so many amazing girls and helping them feel excited and comfortable as they join our chapter. I am also so grateful to work alongside Jenna, and learn from someone who truly embodies everything this sisterhood stands for! Meet Ella Willse, our Panhellenic Delegate!?? “I love Chi Omega because it has brought me some of my closest friends, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and shown me how much I am capable of. I have just started in my role as Panhellenic Delegate but I have already learned so much about the importance of sisterly relationships with people outside of my own organization. Being on exec has also shown me the brilliance, kindness, and devotion of my fellow exec members and I am so excited to finish out my term with them!” We love you Ella!!?

While my role primarily involves overseeing our chapter’s risk management and adherence to high standards, it also means being a safe, confidential space where my sisters can go during their most difficult moments. Whether they’re navigating personal struggles, academic stress, or financial hardships, I take immense pride in being the person they choose to turn to. This position has taught me invaluable skills like conflict resolution, empathetic leadership, and holding others accountable. Although it isn’t always easy, Chi Omega has given me so much during my college years and I am incredibly grateful to be able to give back to the chapter in this way.” We love you Kiran!?

My love for Chi O leadership began while serving on our Cardinal Cabinet as Philanthropy Chair. Being able to work with so many girls who were such strong leaders grew my love for Chi O! Being Director of Programming has allowed me to grow my communication and organization skills while also learning how to create a space full of support where the Cardinal Cabinet girls can grow into strong leaders. My favorite part about being DOP is leading Cardinal Cabinet meetings and getting to hear all the amazing ideas the girls on CC have to make our chapter better! I am forever grateful to Chi O for giving me all these experiences to learn and grow while making the best of friends along the way!” We love you Avery!! ?

Kicking off #MeetExecMonday with our Secretary, Isabella Gualano (PC ‘24)?? “To me, being the Secretary has been such a fun and meaningful experience! I have learned so much more about Chi Omega and its purposes through this position. It has truly been an honor to serve my fellow sisters in this way. Chi Omega to me, means finding your best fit and the people who will pick you up when you are going through a hard season or even just a hard day. The women in Chi Omega are incredibly supportive and loving toward one another, and they have helped shape me into the woman I am today! One of my favorite parts of my position is taking roll because it has allowed me to become familiar with everyone’s names, which helped me make connections outside of my member class and get to know so many more people in this chapter! I have also loved serving on the executive board with my big, Kinsley, and seeing how that has made us even closer (the Big/Little process is truly the best!!) I love Chi Omega so much and am forever indebted to this chapter for all the opportunities and experiences it has given me!” We love you Isabella!! Growing up with a sister, I always knew I wanted to find a sisterhood that felt genuine, supportive, and truly like a home away from home. During sisterhood round, I could immediately tell the girls in Chi O had a bond I wanted to be a part of. I felt comfortable being myself, and every conversation came so naturally. This week’s #WhyChiOWednesday is from one of our seniors @sarahhcarlton !! ? “Oh my…why Chi O. Where to start, I feel like the reasons for my why grow with every year that I have the privledge of being a part of this sweet sisterhood. When I went through recruitment as a Sophomore, I remember coming off a rough start to college with a prayer on my heart. A prayer of longing for friendship that made me feel known and loved as I was, for who I was. Going through recruitment Chi Omega was the house that I always looked forward to because it was easy- everytime I walked through the doors it felt as though they’d been expectantly waiting for specifically me. Not waiting for a PNM, but for me, Carlton Dyer. That was the beginning of how the Lord faithfully answered my prayer of longing. Immediately after joining I moved in the house spontaneously with my big, Lia Wilson. Lia made me feel as though I’d been there the whole time- welcoming me in as one of her own. I then met Hunter, Blakely, Gracie, and Alyse- each time I see them it reminds me of the expectant joy I felt the first time I stepped foot in Chi Omega. Lia then went on to introduce me to Perry, Katie, Izzy, and Virginia- I truly can’t recall a time with them where I haven’t had the biggest smile on my face. Then Addie and Lia- regardless of the way the wind is blowing, everytime I’m with them I feel seen and loved and leave refreshed and encouraged. Friends that are living testimonies of how abundantly this sisterhood has blessed my life!! My cup overflows each day with sheer gratitude that this is my life. Now as I graduate- I’m reminded of the continual commitment of sisterhood that Chi Omega vows to you upon recieving your bid card. I watch my littles Anna Montgomery and Mary Alice Bowman experience the privilege of intentional and life-giving sisterhood & then model it for younger member classes. A ripple effect that I hold dear to my heart, as I’ve watched my baby sister, Austin Dyer, choose Chi Omega this past fall recruitment for the same reasons I chose wisely three years ago. Because of them, I’ve been able to become the best version of myself, and some of my favorite college memories are thanks to the friendships I’ve found in Chi Omega! I thought joining a sorority as a sophomore would be intimidating at first, but having Julia by my side as my big made the new member process so easy and fun! We bonded quickly over the experience of rushing as sophomores, our shared coffee obsession, long walks around Lake Johnson, and Sunday church dates. Julia has been a constant source of encouragement for me, as well as someone I look up to and know I can always rely on. Our relationship is so special to me and I strive to emulate it with my own little. Being a big to Ashley has been just as special in a different way - watching her grow as a new member, supporting her, and now getting to serve on exec together has been so rewarding and feels incredibly full circle. These girls have shaped my confidence, sense of belonging, and love for this chapter in ways that have made my experience as a Chi Omega truly unforgettable!” We have so much love for this sweet family?

It wasn’t a big thing in my hometown and I didn’t know if it was something I really wanted to do. As I started connecting with new people on campus, I slowly became more interested in rushing and throughout the whole process Chi O was my top. The second I stepped foot in the house I immediately felt like I was surrounded by girls I wanted to be by all the time. As rush continued and I opened up about what I wanted in a sisterhood, the women I met not only understood me but also shared stories of moments when they felt the way I hoped to feel. Not only did this allow me to build a new network of girls that I am so thankful to call my sisters, but it allowed me to be surrounded by girls that had the same intentions and goals as me going forward in line through this experience! I am so thankful I ended up going through primary recruitment and chose Chi O to be my forever home!” We love you Alana!!??

? Meet our amazing Directors of Campus Activities, Lucy Grigsby and Bacall Sellars! ? This past weekend, Lucy and Bacall planned and hosted all of our Parents Weekend events, including our Parents Cocktail and our Open House Brunch! ?? Here’s what they had to say about the weekend: “This year, I was extremely blessed to be able to serve on Chi Omega’s Cardinal Cabinet as one of the Directors of Campus Activities! It taught me countless lessons about leadership, teamwork, and how to balance creativity and organization. I saw how meaningful it is to bring people together to celebrate themselves and the ones they love. I watched our sisters grow closer and honor each other whether it was during one of the events from Parents Weekend or our annual Senior Sendoff function! I’m grateful for the trust my chapter had in me to help collaborate and plan these events, and at the end of the day, it was one of the most rewarding experiences I could have ever asked for! Thank you to the Alpha Kappa Chapter for such a rewarding experience!” - Lucy Grigsby? “Parents Weekend is one of my favorite traditions on campus! As co-director of campus activities, I loved seeing families come together to experience the energy and community that makes our campus so special. Meet Abbie Hooks, a freshman from Rocky Mount majoring in Elementary Education! ✨ Here’s what she shared about choosing Chi O: “I chose Chi O because of the positive environment and uplifting spirit of the girls. The genuine warmth of the sisterhood made me feel immediately welcomed and inspired to be myself. I’ve always been a huge Wolfpack fan, so coming to NC State felt right, and I wanted to branch out into a larger community like Raleigh. Chi O gives me the opportunity to build connections and get more involved in the Raleigh community through service projects.” We are so lucky to have Abbie in our sisterhood and can’t wait to see all the amazing things she’ll do at Chi O and beyond! ?✨

This weekend we had the best time at our New Member Retreat!? It was such a great chance to bond, make memories, and officially welcome our newest sisters. ?⛳️ Meet Tizzy, one of our new members! She shared, “Joining Chi O has been such a unique experience and blessing. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind but retreat was such an amazing time to slow down, spend a day with the girls that make this all so special, and bond as a new family. I can’t wait for more memories with these ladies! XO :)” We love our new members so much and we can’t wait to share more memories with them!✨?

But I learned it can be fun to prioritize my work when I get to do it at the beach!
